Dropping Links vol. 2!~~~
OOOoooF whatta week for pop/internet culture.
In low-stakes high nostalgia news, we lost Hale and Hearty (which sustained anyone forced to spend lunchtime in midtown Manhattan), in medium-stakes bummer news we had the conscious uncoupling of Jo Koy and Chelsea Handler, and in high-stakes truly emotionally devastating news we saw the breakup of Desus and Mero.
With a week such as this, and with the internet no longer a place to escape, when does doomscrolling stop filling the void? When is the time we finally all collectively log off?
LOL yeah right – HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK:
Quickies
It was hot….everywhere this week, and at a time like this, “can’t swim in me own bin?”
Ryan Coogler gave a moving tribute to Chadwick Boseman at Comic-Con as the Wakanda Forever trailer for premiered.

Literally, save your $, the entirety of the Elvis movie is summed up in one TikTok for your convenience.
Wedding guest prep: sorted. These guys have the moves that’ll keep you on every guest list.
The “little miss” memes took over the internet, but thankfully Mashable has the context so you can explain it to your boss/mom/off-the-grid boyfriend.

Open Tabs:
Short: Drew Barrymore is the poster child for healing your inner child and what getting an appropriate dose of SSRIs can do. Start with the Window, end with the Rain.
Medium: We got a second trailer for the movie the internet is FERAL for, and we still have months to go.
Long: Catch up on The Bear immediately, or you will be “BEHIND” (this is a niche BOH restaurant joke please tell me you get it)
Deep Dive: Bennifer Loffleck
TLDR: Pop culture history occurred.
The detriment of deciding on Sunday nights to release this newsletter is that occasionally, late-breaking news occurs when everyone should be wallowing in their Sunday Scaries and I don’t have time to include it.
Unless you grew up “going outside” or “having hobbies” or something similarly unhinged, you are aware of the magnitude Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez’s marriage carries to Millennials everywhere. Suddenly, in the late hours of last Sunday, we dusted off our early 00s moodboards we hastily put away after the DAY BEFORE calling off of their 2003 wedding (and subsequent breakup) and reveled in this couple’s ability to rekindle a 20-year old relationship (and you can’t even get a text back, smh).
I can’t get into every detail (but Vulture can—this is ROBUST) but what I will say, is that after 20 years, a handful of engagements and marriages for each of them, a huge dragon back tattoo, and this video that lives rent free in my head, I’m not only elated for them, but also ready to not hear much from them for a little while.
The biggest mystery to remain after all of this finally occurring, is J.Lo’s, sorry, I mean J.Fleck’s, dress. The internet is sleuthing into the wee hours after she claimed it was from “an old movie” that she saved. As of yet, the dress has been identified, but not the movie, and no comment from Fleck’s team. Fingers crossed this is a time for Gigli to come back into the zeitgeist.
