Dropping Links vol 1: The Inaugural Drop!
bringing the links from your group chat right to your inbox
Welcome to ~Dropping Links~!
Hi! Here I am! I could sense you were dying for more emails in your inbox, so I’m here to help.
In summary, this will be a weekly(ish) newsletter, diving into all of the links you’re probably sharing in various group chats, Slack rooms, or mentioning over happy hour. Low-stakes, internet/pop culture-specific content meant to take your mind off of *gestures wildly* everything else happening in the world right now.
My goal for the content is to be “widely curated” (made this term up), meaning there’s intentionally something for everyone. However, it will inevitably skew toward things I’m interested in most (i.e. Stanley Tucci and various other bald headed celebrities, shrimp, Mattress Firm conspiracies, TikTok mormon drama, and wiener dogs) and there’s simply nothing I can do about that.
Let’s dive in!
Quickies:
A Very Fancy™️ telescope released space images and I had to wait for Hank Green to tell me why it’s cool!
Beyonce joined TikTok, and UGC’d her butt off for her arrival
Harry Styles released a new music video, and 99% of it takes place in bed, and we thank him for it
This imitation of boring men in musicals is cackle-worthy
Christopher Meloni brought his notorious buns of steel to Peloton
Current Open Tabs:
Short: Mark Ronson posted a TikTok of a voice memo from Lizzo after they finished their song from her new album and it’s perfection. (p.s. STREAM SPECIAL)
Medium: If you’re not watching Only Murders in the Building by now I simply don’t know what to do with you. Watching my grandpas (Steve Martin and Martin Short) quarrel every week is like free Xanax.
Long: In preparation for the “Deep Dive” below, if you didn’t spend your formative years lining Ryan Murphy’s pockets, you may need a Glee deep dive to ~get it~, and there is no one better for the pop culture deep dives than Mike’s Mic.
Deep Dive
Doesn’t everyone get sucked into a niche specific wormhole once a week about like, corn production or dipping sauce recipes? No? Just me?
TLDR: Beanie Feldstein is getting replaced by Lea Michele in Broadway’s Funny Girl, and let me tell you, the internet is keeping it funny, girl.
This week, all I want to discuss is the niche Broadway drama that is the Funny Girl casting change. God bless the journalists at People Magazine for this helpful timeline which gives an overview of the broad strokes. But we’re not talking about broad strokes here, people. We’re getting IN THE WEEDS and into the niche theories from the rabid fans.
I would be remiss to not mention arguably the greatest celebrity rumor ever to exist on the internet, that Lea Michele can’t read. This incredible rumor came back around with this recent casting announcement, being further fueled by the fact that Lea basically lived this sequence of events in an episode of Glee before. Like, a few times?.
Speaking of Glee, another former cast member, Sazz Pataki, I mean Jane Lynch, is exiting RIGHT before Lea starts, leading the internet to believe this was a purposeful move due to bad blood. (However, this was debunked by Jane Lynch herself, boo).
Anyway, I hadn’t seen the play with Beanie, but in general I am a fan, and know she probably doesn’t deserve any of the flack (or blindsiding) she’s received. I think there’s probably more that happened behind-the-scenes, and I truly can’t wait for someone to break an NDA to let us know.
To close, shoutout to one of my favorite Twitter accounts for also acknowledging this news. Doing the lord’s work.
*added to faves*
this is a weekly section to shoutout some of my favorite recent follows/cool things my friends are doing/a new wiener dog account I hadn’t seen before, etc.
Not a *new* account by any means, but when @SundayScaries hits, it HITS. (Sometimes too close to home, but that’s a conversation for me and my therapist)
Gigi King has QUICKLY become my favorite follow on TikTok—an effortless account that feels like you’re FaceTiming with your funniest friend.
If you haven’t subscribed to Normal Gossip yet, close this email and do it NOW (and then come back and share this, etc. etc.)
THAT’S ALL FOLKS! I had a great time, you had a great time, send this to your friends so that they, too, can have a great time!!!!!!!!!
